OK, now we are already living in an age when AI-automated beat makers, DJs, composers, mastering engineers, and even singers are available. If you live in Japan, you might know that an old Japanese singer who already passed away was ‘regenerated’ as an AI program and sang a new song. So, now what? What characterizes human beings and makes the outputs different from AI?

Here is just my opinion – given that AI just interpolates or extrapolates feature quantity by using vast number of samples scattered in spaces that are already known, I think the value of human beings, which will never be disrupted even if the future AI will be sophisticated more and more, is to establish something no one has ever accomplished or even imagined within spaces where we perceive as cool, joyful, or beautiful etc. I believe this is consistent with that we should do something new and different from what someone has already done, as the maestro Kapustin said.

In that sense, I felt this album accomplished and presented one brand-new perspective to Kapustin’s mid-term works whose possibilities have not been sufficiently explored, by realizing a graceful yet powerful playing style that has never been accomplished within possible outputs deducted from the fixed scores. It is so easy to say ‘Oh yeah this album is a must-buy’. I believe this album is far more than that and demonstrated the works had unexplored and reachable potentials nevertheless of the scores that were written with extraordinarily much information, which could sometimes look like specifying the playing style so rigidly. Eventually, this combination of the Kapustin’s composition and the Mr. Kawakami’s playing, to me, shows one limit in the most humanly space that AI cannot reach.

It is extremely sad that the maestro Kapustin will never drop by this blog again. But his scores as memes are now adapted to our mind, and will reproduce other memes in the future, by mutating its forms, like Mr. Kawakami did. This album will be undoubtedly the first driving force to the meme diversification as a vanguard.

Oh yes, one thing to add as always – in most cases price of Kapustin-related goods will suddenly and rapidly rise in time. So my suggestion is that, you should grab this album right now if you are more or less interested!!
